Chakpori Institute of medicine Tibetan
The medical school Tibetan of Chakpori had been founded by the the 5th Dalaï Lama and her regent Sangyé Gyatso. This institute built on the hill of Chakpori close to Lhassa, was destroyed in 1959 by the Chinese army.
After the annexation of the Tibet by China in 1959 and the exile of 150.000 Tibetans, mainly in India, an important sum of the medical knowledge Tibetan could be safeguarded in particular with Dharamsala and Darjeeling. The Institut Chakpori of medicine Tibetan was refondé with Darjeeling in India and trains doctors Tibetans. One teaches there and one develops to with it today medicine Tibetan in exile.
As of 1961, the 14th Dalaï Lama, Tenzin Gyatso founded with Dharamsala in India the Institut of medicine and astrology Tibetan, (Tibetan men-tsee-khang ), first Institute of Medicine Tibetan in exile.
