Chajar AD-Durr

Chajar AD-Durr (? - 1257) are a slave become favorite of the sultan ayyoubide of Egypt Have-Salih Ayyûb. It then reigned with the title of sultan of 1250 until his death in 1257.

Biography

Married to Have-Salih Ayyûb it gives him a first wire called Khalîd from where its name of Umm Khalîd . Have-Salih Ayyûb had another son Al-Driven `azzam Tûrân Châh. Khalîd dies before his/her father.

Died of Have-Salih Ayyûb

In 1249, the king of France Louis IX lance the Seventh crusade. The crusaders make stopover with Cyprus.

At this time Have-Salih Ayyûb is with Damas, during its absence, Chajar AD-Durr will play the part of regent and will organize the defense of Egypt. Hardly Have-Salih Ayyûb it returned that he dies. Not to throw into a panic the troops Chajar AD-Durr hiding place this death by saying that her husband is simply sick. When finally she announces the death of Have-Salih Ayyûb, his/her son Tûrân Châh is the designated heir. Left Cyprus the crusaders arrive at Damiette in the delta of the the Nile, in May 1249 with 1800 ships. The city is taken the June 8th. The army of cross then moves towards Cairo. The seizure of power

The crusaders undergo reverses. From February to April 1250 the crusaders make the seat of the citadel of Mansourah. The Scurvy and the Dysenterie decimate the soldiers and force the king to beat a retreat. A sergeant félon makes then run the noise that the king went. One month later, in May 1250, the king and the whole of the prisoners are released against a strong ransom paid by the Ordre of the Temple.

Egypt was, since the seizure of power by Saladin, under the authority of the Abbasid Caliph ` of Baghdad. The caliph Al-Musta' sim does not accept that a woman can have the title of sultan. He sends a letter to the emirs Mamelukes saying that if the emirs are not able to find a man equal to the task, he would be made a duty of their sending one of them. Chajar AD-Durr holds head during less than two months. The Mameluke Al-Driven `izz `Izz AD-DIN Aybak is appointed by the assembly of the emirs. But that does not satisfy Ayyoubides which sees a Mameluke seizing the power. By love, by shared interest or ambition, Chajar AD-Durr allures Aybak and the wife. It is said that they were in love one with the other. The caliph sent to the sultan of Egypt a dagger decorated with a decoration of jasmines as a sign of good will. But he refused to send the formal robes.

During the seven years which follow, it is Chajar AD-Durr rather than Aybak which controls. It continues to sign the decrees in the name of the sultan, one beats currency with his name and it dares to be made call sultan (E).

Chajar AD-Durr was very jealous, at the time of its marriage with Aybak, it had had to divorce his first wife. When he speaks to take a second wife Chajar AD-Durr finds that unacceptable. She organizes the murder of her husband with left the bath after part of sports shirt. She seeks to hide her crime but of old adversaries awake then. the first wife of Aybak asks for repair. The generals are divided on the attitude to take. Finally during a riot Chajar AD-Durr is struck with died with blow of sticks by the slaves of the harem. Its naked corpse with half is thrown in the ditches of the citadel (April 1257). The son of Aybak, Al-Mansûr Nûr AD-DIN `Âlî, a fifteen year old teenager, goes up on the throne.

The corpse of Chajar AD-Durr would currently be in a mausoleum with its name, which it would have made build of alive sound, with the Cairo.
