Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari (Persan: RTL F چهارمحالوبختیارى) is one of the 30 provinces of Iran. It is located in the south of the country. Its capital is Shahre kord.

Its surface is of 16  533 km ² and its population are of 832  000 inhabitants (estimate 2005).

Population and culture

The history of the province is related to that of the tribe Bakhtiari which goes down from the people Lor. Bakhtiari can be divided into two subgroups, the Haft Lang and the Chahar Lang which have themselves of the territorial alternatives. The Bakhtiari territory at a certain time also extended on the provinces from the Fars and the Khuzestan.

The province has several single traditions dependant on the tribal lifestyles. One can note for example specific forms of music, dance and clothing.
