Chahada

The chahada or shahada or shâhada (Arab: rear RTL شهادة, testimony ) which means “certificate” or Arab “testimony of faith” in , is one of the Piliers of Islam.

This Profession of Moslem faith is very short: rear RTL لآاِلَهَاِلاَّللهمحمدرسولالله ( Lâ ilâha illa-llâh, muhammad one rasûlu-llâhi ), being able to result in I testify that there is not a true divinity other than Allah and than Mohammed is Her messenger.

Indeed, to attest “that there is no worthy divinity to be adored if it is not Allah” implies that the act must be sincerely accomplished for Allah alone, by not dedicating any type of worship for other that him, because it falls that any worship must be sincerely accomplished for its face.

Description

It consists for the Believing, in all full knowledge of the facts and not under the constraint, to accept and proclaim two things: any act of worship should be directed only towards Allah only; and Mahomet is the messenger of Allah, and must for that be followed. In the same way, the certificate “that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah” implies the absolute follow-up of the Messenger of Allah. All in all, any act must be carried out sincerely for Allah, as much as it must be in conformity and agreement with the lesson of the Prophet Mohammad.

The Arab formula Lâ ilâha illa-llâh contains an insinuation. The word ilâh wants to say a divinity to which one dedicates a worship (verb alaha , “to adore”). The word applies to a divinity who is considered to be adored wrongly or rightly thus the Coran speaks about Âlihah (plural of ilâh ) to designate the divinities of the polytheists. One cannot thus think that Lâ ilâha illa-llâh affirms the inexistence of other âlihah , but rather illegitimacy of the worship which is dedicated to them.

Thus, like underlined it several Oulémas, Lâ ilâha illa-llâh means Lâ ma' bûda bih' aqqin illa-llâh : “no one is not legitimately adored with Allah share”.

Usually, this formula is recited with the right ear of the new-born babies, accompanies then all Musulman during its life, and finally is marked last once at the bedside of dying. A Hadith would consider even a person whose last words are the profession of faith (by applying its conditions) as promised with the paradise.

Within the framework of an initiation to Islam, it is necessary to learn the chahada, initially in its native Arabic language then, as well as the Ablution necessary to pronounce it. Then, to recite in Arabic the profession of faith with the intention to embrace the Islam, while including/understanding and by accepting the direction of this Religion and what it implies.

It should be noted that to proclaim that God is single was a reaction to the many worships polytheists which knew Mecque at the 7th century, but also towards the concept of the Trinité of the Christian Religion, which Mahomet regarded as a disguised polytheism (Shirk).

thus Believe in a God and his prophets.

known as step: “Three”;
Cease doing it;
It will be better for you.
God is single!
Glory with him!
Comment would it have a son?
Coran (IV; 171)

To recite sincerely is not enough however to lead to it the believer at the end of his life. It does nothing but leave it its condition of rejected, i.e. of sinner excluded by God from the number of the elected officials.

To gain the Paradise, the Moslem must also respect the four other canonical pillars or obligations which the Coran prescribes. However, God can forgive with those which give up certain pillars (except according to certain opinions the Salât or the Zakât) provided that these people recognize the obligation of those.

The word chahada is to be brought closer to the Arab word (chahîd) which means “pilot” like the Greek word ( μαρτυρος , “witness”).

Conditions of Chahada

The profession of time, so that it is accepted, requires certain fundamental conditions:

  • the knowledge of its significance

  • sincerity in its pronunciation and its application
  • the certainty in it
  • the acceptance of this sentence
  • the total tender so that it implies
  • the rejection and the abandonment of any form of associationism
  • the love of this certificate
  • the mécréance in all beliefs, acts or words cancelling the latter

Chahada in Coran

The chahada is not formalized like such in Coran. Several verses expose its contents. Its beginning is clearly in the Chapter (Sourate) 37, verse 35 which means: " When one said to them: " Not divinity with Alah" share; , they inflated orgeuil, etc." One can add Chapter 4, verse 136 which means: " Believe in a God and his Prophet, with the Book which It revealed with his Prophet, with the Book that It revealed before. Whoever does not believe in a God, with his Angels, its Books, with its prophets and at last Day, is in deep a égarement".

Other verses are added, for example: Chapter 49, verse 15 which means:

“Truths believers are only those which believe in Allah and Its messenger, which thereafter do not doubt…. ” Chapter 7 verse 158 which means:

“Say (O Mouhammad): “O men! I am for you all the Messenger of Allah, to which belongs the royalty of the skies and the ground. No the divinity with share him. It gives the life and it gives death. Thus believe in Allah, its messenger, the illiterate Prophet who believes in Allah and his words. And follow it so that you are well guided. ”

Chapter 3 verse 18:

“God testifies that there is not god except Him and thus make the angels and those which have the knowledge. In truth and equity, It is the absolute god; there is of god only Him, the Almighty, Wisest. ”

Let us raise that the oath of the woman believing in Coran is much more demanding and precis that the chahada: Chapter 60, verse 12: " O Prophet! When believing them come to lend oath of allegiance to you swear of it that they will not associate anything with Allah, that they will not fly, that they will not be delivered to adultery, that they will not kill their own children, that they will make any infamy neither with their hands nor with their feet and that they will not disobey in what is suitable, then receives their oath of allegiance, and beseeches the forgiveness of Allah for elles".
