Chadian presidential election of 2006

the presidential election was held on May 3rd, 2006 whereas the country has known for several weeks of the disorders with an attempt at inversion by armed rebels. The outgoing president Idriss Déby Itno was re-elected with 77,53% of the voices according to the announced results on May 14th. The parties of the opposition boycotted the election.

The results of the presidential election were proclaimed on May 14th, 2006 By the Independent electoral commission:

  • rate of participation with this poll reached 61,49%
  • Idriss Déby Itno, outgoing president: 77,53%
  • Kassiré Coumakoye (former Prime Minister, national Gathering for the democracy and progress): 8,81%
  • Albert Pahimi Padacké, (Minister for Agriculture, national Gathering of the Chadian democrats): 5,35%
  • Mahamat Abdoulaye (deputy secretary with Decentralization, Movement for peace and the development in Chad): 4,64%
  • Brahim Koulamallah (renovated African socialist Movement): 3,67%
