Chabrey

Chabrey is a village and a common of the Vully, located in the District of Avenches, in the Canton of Vaud, in Suisse.

Geography

Chabrey (494m) is located at the foot of the northern slope of the Vully, between the lakes of Neuchâtel and Morat, with 7km in the north of Avenches. The territory of the commune extends from bank of the Neuchâtel Lake, with the southern slope of Vully, where a small vineyard is. The common neighbors of Chabrey are Delley-Portalban (western), Villars-the-Large (southern), Montmagny (south-eastern) and Cudrefin (north-eastern).
In 1997, the territory consisted of 6% of built-up areas, of 37% of forest zones, 45% of agricultural zones, and a little less than unproductive ground 12% (the Grande Cariçaie, along the Neuchâtel Lake).

Population

With 214 inhabitants (at the end of 2004) Chabrey belongs to the small communes of the Canton of Vaud. The population of Chabrey rose with 283 inhabitants in 1850, then 222 inhabitants in 1900. After the number of inhabitants fell up to 136 in 1970, a significant increase in population was since then recorded. The official language is French, spoken by 86.4% about the population, 11.6% of the population speaks German and 1.0% Portuguese (2000). The population is to 70% Protestant woman and a little less than 20% catholic (2000).
The communal policy is based on an executive of 5 members and a general advice.
