Chödrak Gyatso

The 7th Karmapa, Chödrak Gyatso (1454 - 1506)

Chödrak Gyatso was born in Kyilha in North from Tibet. Gyaltsab Rinpoché, a disciple of the 6th Karmapa and directing monastery Nyewo Ngarteng of Karmapa, near Kyilha, dreamed that the Karmapa had been réincarné in this city. He sought the young child. In order to make sure that the child was the authentic reincarnation, it had led with him the possessions of the 6th Karmapa. At the four years age, it accepted Gyaltsab Rinpoché a series of transmissions. At the eight years age, it came to live in Karma Gön where it accepted the lesson karma kagyü at the same time of Benkar Jampal Zangpo and Gyaltsab Rinpoché. The 7th Karmapa worked with the protection of the animals and was the instigator of many projects, like the construction of bridges. The 7th Karmapa passed most of its life in retirement or semi-retirement. He was also a very erudite scholar, and an author, and it is him which founded the monastic university with Tsourphou. It also restored the large statue ordered by Karma Pakshi. Often pacificatory, one remembers it for his visions Padmasambhava which led it to discover hidden valleys which could be used as refuge to people in period of war.
