Châtelaillon-Beach is a common French, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime and the area Poitou-Charentes.

History

As of XIIe century drew up itself, on the point of the Cuckold absorbed today under the floods, the fortress of Castrum Allionis then capital of the Aunis. In August 1130, the duke of Aquitaine Guillaume X, makes the seat in front of the castle. The last lord of the place Isembert deprived of soldier vis-a-vis the troops of his suzerain capitulates. There does not remain any more any vestige of this city which disappeared completely not to leave with XVIIe, that a small hamlet, some farms and huts of marsh.

History former to the 19th century, it remains some agricultural or oyster masonries (village of Boucholeurs).

It is only at the end of the XIXe century, with the appearance of the railroad, that was built the seaside resort to accommodate the first amateurs of the “ baths of mer ”: many villas 1900 strew from the coast.

A recent work gives an outline of all the archaeological discoveries carried out on the slope of the Old man Châtelaillon (Gallo-Roman occupation, necropolis of Sands, christianization of the site, discovered burials, funerary furniture discovered in sarcophagi etc).
