Châteauneuf-Valley-of-Bargis

Châteauneuf-Valley-with-Bargis is a common French, located in the department of the Nievre and the area Burgundy.

Geography

History

- 578: the city is mentioned under the name of Bargiacus in a payment enacted by saint Aunaire, bishop of Auxerre; it was called then the Sharp one.

- January 12th, 579?: in its payment, holy Aunaire required of the parishes of its diocese to go once the year, in January, in the church cathedral; for Châteauneuf, the date was fixed at January 12th.

- winter 886/887: the area is devastated by the Vikings.

- 1210: the city takes the name of Castelneuf-in-the-Vau-of-Bargis.

- 1358: catch of the city by Robert Knowles, English war leader

- 1425: Perrinet Gressart, adventurer with the service of the duke of Burgundy, is praised to have recovered the places of Châteauneuf-Valley-of-Bargis and of Old man-Mill (Vielmanay).

- 1552 (February): a royal edict attaches Châteauneuf-Valley-of-Bargis to the Resident of Nevers.

- 1558: the wars of religion cause to empty the town of its inhabitants; the Saint-Etienne church is set fire to by the Protestants.

- 1608: very rigorous winter.

- 1627 to 1638: plague

- August 25th, 1672: in front of the principal door of the church, an small group accommodates the Robeau priest come to take possession of the cure of Châteauneuf.

- September 5th, 1685: visit of the bishop of Auxerre, André Colbert, who testifies that Châteauneuf counts 12 has 1300 hearts of which there are well 800 coiants which did everything their pasques. However, according to the testimony of the priest, several parishioners attend the cabarets and remain mesme there will aprez 8 hours of the evening… It is true that those, in return, show it to return frequent visits in damoiselle Desbordes (...) of colmery (...) which comes at his place from time to time and luy sent pigeons (...) that often it drunk and known as vespres in this estat…

- 1694: famine

- May 30th, 1702: on ordinance of the bishop of Auxerre, cemetery of the parish… in sad state visits!

- 1709: year of large the hyver (which begins on January 6th); the priest of Châteauneuf records this year 1 marriage, 33 baptisms and… 91 deaths!

- May 1744: on ordinance of the bishop of Auxerre, the priest of Châteauneuf leads the investigation to Chasnay: it seems that he is made scandals there, bouts of drunkenness, dissolutions, batteries, profanations, jurements, scandalous dances.

- revolutionary period: the commune takes the name of Valley-Bargis
