Chânes is located at the south of Mâcon, on the first heights of the Beaujolais wine. The commune distributes on both sides small affluent of the Saone: Arlois. Over left bank of Arlois, the borough of Chânes is dominated by its Romance church. Along Arlois, the hamlet of the Borough-Nine skirts the main roads which lead to the RN6. Lastly, on Right Bank of the river, the old locality the Courtyards extended with construction from an important allotment at the end of the Seventies and in the Eighties (see the demographic trends below). The commune gathers an important wine activity. Located between the vintages of Built and those of the Beaujolais wine, the soil produces mainly of Saint-Véran (white, believed of built). Chânes is the seat of the one of the principal factories of setting in bottles of the area. The village has for common neighbors Saint-Love to the south, Leynes in the west, Chaintré in north and finally Crêches on the Saone while going towards the Saone.

History

Chânes was strengthened as of highest antiquity (dependence of the abbey of Cluny, then chapter of Saint Vincent de Mâcon). In 1601, its castle belonged to Lord Jean of the Room and in 1671 in Louis Charrier Rock, lord of Crêches and Chânes. Formerly, the hamlet of the " Dracé Ollières" belonged to the commune of Chânes, this last from now on is attached to the commune of Crêches on the Saone since 1805 (Napoléonien decree). This decree seems to make following many arguments and negociations between the two villages concerning of the right-of-way and the properties of one or the other.
