Cestrède

The valley of Cestrède is a small valley dug by the gave of Cestrède , a left affluent of the Gave de Gavarnie, in Lavedan in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Dominated by the Peak of Cestrède (2947 m), it ends in a small circus, l' Oule de Cestrède which communicates with:

  • the valley of Winder by the collar of the Oule (2556 m) and
  • the Oulettes d' Estom Soubiran by the collar of Malh Arrouy (2745 m).
One finds there a small lake, eth Lacot will dera Oule (2296 m).

Access

One reaches the valley since Gèdre by the road of Ayrues which one continues to the carpark of Bué (1436 m).

A marked out path makes it possible to reach the Lake Cestrède (1962 m; 0.8 ha). It borrows a footbridge on the brook of Oule , not far from a sulfur spring, then offers a pretty sight on the cascades of Soutarrã (resurgence).

After the lake, one can take on the right towards the cants of Cestrède to reach the Lake Antarrouyes (2009 m; 1.1 ha) by a way with air passage ( attention with the giddiness; to abstain from in the presence of snow ). This lake is located at the outlet of the ravine of the Black Lac (2331 m; 5.2 ha) on the northern slope of the valley. It fed old the channel of Caubarole used for the irrigation of the meadows of Pragnères.
