Cestas
Cestas is a common French, located in the department of the the Gironde and the area Aquitaine.
The inhabitants of Cestas are called the Cestadais .
Geography
The commune of Cestas is located in the Landes of Bordeaux, in the south-west of the agglomeration of Bordeaux. Its surface is d´environ: 10000 Hectares.On the commune are disseminated two plans d´eau and a pond in the middle of 600 hectares of forest. The forest is primarily made up of pine S and Fougère S. Y are located three parks of excursion where extend from tens of kilometers of way like 25 km of cycle track.
History
The name of Cestas comes from Cestum or six stages in Latin who is distance (approximately 20 km) separating it from Burdigala (Bordeaux).During the Middle Ages, Cestas was a stage on the road of driving pilgrimage to St Jacques de Compostelle.
During his program towards Spain, Napoleon I slept with his troops in the drill of Cestas, with the locality " Sources".
The Station of Gazinet-Cestas was open on May 7th 1841 by the Railroad company of Bordeaux with Teste. The ways were electrified in June 1927.
In summer 1949, Cestas was touched by a fire which extended on most of the the Gironde. The August 20th, 82 men were killed (mainly of the Pompier S). A monument their is dedicated.
Cestas knew also the first (February 1969) taken Otage S mediatized of France with that which one named at the time the exaggerated of Cestas . Between Tuesday February 11th 1969 and Monday February 17th 1969, a man, Andre Fourquet, 38 years, given up by its wife, barricaded itself in her house in the farm of Sayet with Gazinet with his/her two Francis children and Aline, respectively old of 11 and 13 years. It gave itself death after to have killed them both. At the time of the funeral Micheline Berton ex-Fourquet, the mother of the children, was taken with party and failed to be lynched by part of the population which held it for person in charge of the drama because she had not wanted to see her ex-husband as he asked it at the time of the seat of the farm of Sayet. The film of Robert Enrico Fait winters is inspired directly by this business. The oldest daughter Chantal Fourquet, only surviving, tried to make it prohibit.

The church of Cestas
Romance church primitive it remains only one drawing gone back to 1744 showing an establishment overhanging the brook of the Eau Boob and a plan of 1871 drawn up before its demolition. Surface on the ground was of 177 m ². Only five Bas-reliefs framing the Porche were preserved and enchased in the wall external of the Abside of the current church.Following large the epidemic S of Plague, the church was dedicated to Saint Andre. A Brotherhood being then made up, a Statue of Saint Roch was given to the church at the 17th century in thanks by cestadais at the time of an epidemic of plague Ovin E (statue restored in 1995 and currently in the church).
In 1871, the building, considered to be too small, will not be increased, but will not be demolished. The construction of the new church (1873) will be allocated to the reduction with the sior Goyetes it will be completed into 1875/76.
In 1911, a Incendie will destroy part of the interior and the liturgical objects. The church will be given in state in 1912.
In 1982, the Father Etienne Damoran being cleaned, the decision is taken by the Town hall and the Paroisse to restore the three Nef S and to increase the church. This enlarging, resolutely modern will be added to the left nave of the church. The old doors out of wooden of the gate are removed and replaced by doors out of glass. The original stained glasses of the left part of the church will be inserted in the new stained glasses of the new nave. Christian Lacrampe is charged by the Mayor with the follow-up with work with the architect Michel Sadirac.
Interior decoration uses only the Bois and the Bronze. The Sculpture S are of François Caldéron and Gerard Auliac. The characters of the Vitraux of the 19th century are integrated after restoration in the modern stained glasses assembled into the Plomb into old. Jacques Fonmarty signed these stained glasses with load of the parish. In 1989 replacement of the Organ breathless by an instrument produced by Severe Yves. He is inaugurated in 1990.
