Cervens

Cervens is a commune of the department of the Haute-Savoie (France). It counts 729 inhabitants (1999).

Geography

Cervens, located at 614 m of altitude, is with 10 kilometers in the south-west of Thonon-the-Baths (as the crow flies). It belongs to the area of Bas-Chablais, close to the source of the brook of Gurnaz, with the foot of the solid mass of the Chablais and the Col of Neck.

The communal Superficie reaches 6,36 km ² and is divided in several zones: In north, one finds the plate of Bas-Chablais where run the brooks of Gurnaz and Redon in direction of the Lac Léman. In the south and south-east, the slope increases initially gently then more quickly until Crêt Vernay (1220 m). With the Point of Targaillan, located at the south-east of the collar of Neck, one reaches the culminating point of the commune (1230 m).

The hamlets of Terrotet (605 m) and Pessinges (624 m), dependant on the commune of Cervens, are with the foot of Crêt Vernay. The communes bordering are Perrignier in north, Draillant in the east, Habère-Pocket in the south like Fessy and Lully in the west.

History

The first constructions of the village go up at the time of the Burgondes. Indeed, of the Tile S, the statuettes and the parts dating from the Roman epoch are discovered there. A barn of the chief town goes up as for it at the 17th century.

An big family of Cervens, whose armorial bearings are a stag, takes part in the Croisade S and bequeaths to the village her symbol.

The name of Cervens would come from a Gallo-Roman of the name of Cervinus .

Population

With 729 inhabitants (in 1999), Cervens is one of the smallest communes of Haute-Savoie. However, in the last decades, a strong and continuous growth of the number of inhabitants appeared as of the Années 1970 and accelerated as of the Années 1980. Outside the village, Lotissement S gradually appeared.

Economy and infrastructure

Cervens was, until second half of the 20th century, a village dominated by the Agriculture. In the Years 1950, one finds thus there about fifty Paysan S. Aujourd'hui, it remains only 3 about it. However, of SME were created. However, many inhabitants leave daily to work with Thonon-the-Baths, Annemasse even Geneva (Suisse).

The village is with the variation of the main roads of circulation but is connected to Perrignier by secondary road 903 (Saint-Cergues - Thonon-the-Baths). Communal roads connect it to Draillant and Lully.
