Cerumen
The cerumen , commonly known like wax of the ear , is a substance yellowish, waxy, secreted in the channel of the human Oreille of the S and others Mammifère S. It plays a big role in the external auditive channel, helping with its cleaning and its lubrication, and also providing an effective protection against the Bactérie S, mushroom S and the Insecte S.
Production
The cerumen is produced in one the external third of the cartilagineuse portion of the channel of the human ear. It is a mixture of viscous secretions of the sébacées glands and others less viscous of glands of modified Transpiration Apocrine. The cerumen is given Génétique lies - Asian and Amerindian having generally a type of dry cerumen (gray and flocculent), whereas the Caucasians and the Africans have that of the wet type (honey-brown with dark and wet chestnut). In fact the type of cerumen is used by the anthropologists to follow the human migratory tendencies, like those of the Inuit S.The difference of the type of cerumen at the Man varies from only one pair of Nucléotide S in gene called C11 of the conveyer atp-binding-cassette. In addition to the assignment of the type of cerumen, this change would reduce also the Transpiration. The researchers imagine that the reduction of perspiration would be due to the ancestors of the populations be-Asian and the Amerindian S which would have lived during more cold climates. (Yoshiura 2006).
Functions
Cleaning
The cleaning of the channel of the ear intervenes like result of a “conveyer belt”, the process of epithelial migration, helped by the movement of the Mâchoire. The cells formed in the center of the membrane of the tympanum migrate towards outside, initially slowly (with a pace equivalent to that of the growth of a nail) since the umbilical point of the Tympan to the walls of the channel of the ear, then more quickly to the entry of the channel. The cerumen of the channel is thorough towards outside, taking along with him all dust, dirtinesses and particles of matters which could accumulate in the channel. The movements of the jaw help by increasing the probability of extrusion.
Lubrication
Lubrication prevents the draining and the itching of the skin inside the channel (known like Astéatose ). The lubricating properties come from the high rate of Lipide S of the Sébum produces by sébacées glands. In cerumen of the wet type at least, these lipids include Cholestérol, Squalène and many acids and fatty alcohols with long chain.
Antibactérien role and antifongic
Whereas the antibactérien role and antifongic of the cerumen was ignored until in the years 1960, of the recent studies highlighted its role of protection against certain kinds of bacteria in particular Haemophilus influenzae , Staphylococcus aureus , and of many alternatives of Escherichia coli . The growth of two mushrooms usually present in the cases of Otomycose is also definitely reduced. These properties antibactériennes are due mainly to the presence of saturated fatty-acids, Lysozyme and in particular with relatively acid pH of the cerumen.
Elimination
Cerumen in excess can obstruct the passage of the sounds in the auditive channel, causing a reduction in the auditive acuteness. It is estimated to be the cause of 60 to 80% of the breakdowns of the hearing aids, most touched being the intra-auricular assistances. The method most used to withdraw the cerumen by doctors is the syringe. The method of the scraper is more frequent by the Otologiste S and ORL when the auditive channel is partially stopped and the stopper does not adhere to the skin of the channel. It is usually necessary to soften it, in particular by drops of Olive oil, deposited with a pipette, a process called céruménolyse.
Although the extraction of the cerumen is a current procedure, it is not without risk, and must be made by people with a rigorous experiment and drive.
Cotton Stem
The use of the padded Bâtonnet must be only made in the house of the ear and not in the auditory canal. If not best (if you do not have the bored tympanums) is to use dosette physiological salt solution dosette is enough for your two ears (to put the dosette a few moments under warm water of the tap before opening it so that the serum is tepid ), make run the serum in your ears then a few moment later made leave it while leaning the head: that is generally enough to dissolve the serumen carefully, then delicately wipe your ears with a clean paper handkerchief.
