Certificate of general training

The certificate of general training ( CFG ) is a Diplôme French which certifies the acquisition of basic general knowledge and of capacities of social and professional integration. He addresses himself in particular to people left the education system without diploma or recognized professional qualification. It is the first level of diploma of general training of the State education. It was instituted in 1983.

The certificate of general training concerns people who are not subjected any more to compulsory education. The schooling being obligatory up to 16 years in France, this diploma is thus addressed to some 16 year old candidates or more.

It is not a professional diploma, but it allows the candidates who obtain it to aim a professional Qualification then. It gives right equivalences making it possible to prepare a professional diploma of level V, in particular the Vocational training certificate (CAPE).

It also gives the equivalence of old the Certificat of primary studies, removed in 1989. Its holders have the rights and advantages granted to the holders of the certificate of primary studies.

Candidates and tests

the certificate of general training validates general knowledge in French and mathematics as well as the capacities of social and professional integration of the candidates. The capacities to get information, analyze a situation, to act and communicate belong to the grid of evaluation. The methods of the Examen vary according to the situation of the candidate, but the criteria of evaluation remain identical.

Three types of candidates can arise to the examination:

still provided education for Pupils, in last year of compulsory schooling. These candidates are 16 years old completed in the calendar year of examination and are in last year of the cycle of orientation of the college S: 3rd of insertion, 3rd of Section of mainstream education and professional adapted (Segpa) or in 3rd of regional Establishment of adapted education (Érea). Competences necessary for obtaining the diploma are validated in several stages, with on the one hand a control in the course of training in French and mathematics, and on the other hand, the day of the examination, maintenance a twenty minutes in front of a jury, based on the file of an in-company training followed during the formation.
Young old adults from 16 to 25 years which follow a Part-time course in a device of insertion or a Continuing education. There is no evaluation written for these candidates. The examination takes the form of a 30 minutes maintenance with a jury, starting from a file of training course worked out by the candidate during his formation.
Adult Paid S or applicant for work without qualification, following or not an education act. These candidates undergo two written tests (French and mathematical) and a 20 minutes maintenance with a jury, without presentation of file.

In each department, the inspector of academy organizes the examination and delivers the diploma.
