Cerro Paranal

The Cerro Paranal is a Montagne located in the Désert of Atacama, in the north of Chile. It is located has 120 km with the Southern of Antofagasta, to 80 km in the north of Tal-Tal and with 13km of the sea. Because of its geographical position it was selected to accommodate VLT ESO. 800 km square of grounds around the mountain were given to the ESO to avoid any risk of human construction around (especially of the mines), and to preserve the exceptional quality of the site.
