Cerny is a common French, located in the department of the the Essonne and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants is called Cernois.

History
The lords of Villiers resided at the castle of the same name. They wanted to take the title of lords of Cerny, but they are transfered to dispute this title on several occasions. Various stops of the Parliament of Paris theirs refused, but the dissatisfied lords of Villiers, obliged the inhabitants of Cerny, during all the course of the 18th century to come to grind corn with their mill, preventing them from carrying the grains elsewhere. A sentence gone back to 1748 destroyed these various claims. With the general states they will be done day last once. The blazon of the town of Cerny was adopted at the time of the municipal council of March 26th, 1960 in these terms:
Half-compartment: with the first of azure with three merlettes (alias ducks) of money accompanied as a chief by a star by same, with the second also of azure with two faces heavy showers of money. The stamped ecu of the mural gold crown with three crenelated towers is supported by two sheaves of gold, driving point, retained by a bond of azure. Blazon: weapons associated with the Carnot families with the first, and Selve to the second.

Places and monuments
- Castle of Cerny
- Castle of Villiers. The stronghold of Villiers is given by François Ier to Jean de Selve, after this last negotiated the treated of Madrid of 1526. The counts then marquis de Selve preserve it during several centuries. The plans of the park were carried out according to the new method of the count de Choulot, according to the list published in appendix of its book the Art of the Gardens (1863). Thereafter, this castle was the property of Philippe Clay, singer.
The church
One finds there the burials of the family of Selve. A black marble plate carries this inscription: Tomb of Mrs and Dames De Selve , of 1521 to the June 29th 1824.Until the Revolution the bell-tower of Cerny did not contain three bells, it does not contain any more but one of them, molten at the 16th century, in 1558: this bell does not measure less than 3,25 m of circumference, on 1,10 m in height, it is decorated of an inscription, 7 medallions and a edge. The inscription in Gothic characters from 30 to 25 millimetres is the following one: “I fuz faicte in the Year millet V C L VIII and fuz named Marie by noble home Lazare desselve Sr of Villiers and damoile katrila Fe” . This last formula recalls us that Lazare de Selve had married Catherine Pignard in 1534.
The aerodrome
It is the seat of the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis and its flying museum, high place in France of the collection and the restoration of old planes. With each Pentecost is held an air festival of international repute there.
Personalities related to the commune
- Claude Thierrat, priest of Cerny of 1690 with 1713: this abbot was graduate in Sorbonne, six years after his installation with Cerny in 1696 blessed a bell that Jean de Selve, lord of Cerny, Estouches, etc wire of Jean-Baptiste de Selve, prosecutor in the Court of the currencies, and Jeanne-Charlotte Dupuis, girl of fire Mr. Dupuis, lord of Boismarsas, and Charlotte de Selve, her godfather and godmother, named Charlotte. In the assistance one noticed Jacques-Alexandre de Selve d' Orgemont, Etienne de Mézières, knight, lord of Wall and the R.P. Dom Michel of Vienna, religious barnabite.

François Horse, priest of 1713 with 1743, was originating in Milly-in-Gâtinais (today Milly-the-Forest). The September 16th 1717, the priest had to bless a new bell for its church, it accepted Jean de Selve, knight and lord high lord of the manor of Villiers, Estouches, Tanqueux, toll of Ferté-Went It, etc its godfather, and of Lady Marie-Therese Nocet, widow of Jean-Baptiste de Selve, also lord of the aforesaid places and public prosecutor in the Court of the currencies, its godmother, the name of Marie. Two years later, on September 21st, 1719, the priest again blessed for his church a bell whose godfather and godmother were Pierre Verjon, remaining plowman with Montmirault, and Estiennette Lorier, widow of Claude Freslon, tax prosecutor with Villiers. With the bell which was baptized in 1558 that made four bells, but as an inventory made with the Revolution announces only three bells, the bell of 1696 had to be remelted.

Marguerite the Rope-maker of Troncq - (23e abbess of Villiers) - having died in the Abbey of Montmirault-Villiers the December 6th 1719, Mister de Selve d' Orgemont, which had for it feelings of major regard and sharp sympathy, made celebrate the December 19th 1719, in its honor, in the church of Cerny a solemn service. Eight foreign priests witnessed this ceremony and “were levelled by the aforementioned sior with the presbytery of the place”.

Jean-Baptiste Dirtied (1896 - 1967), Aviator and collector of old planes, founder of the Aérodrome of Cerny- Ferté-Went It. His/her son, Jean Dirtied, took his continuation in 1967.
