Cerebral abscess
The cerebral abscess is a cluster of Pus located inside the Cerveau.
The pus was formed following a Infection which has occurred in the vicinity (sine, Dent S, Oreille S…), of a cardiac disease, of a pneumopathy or an infection following a Surgical operation. This last case became rare in the countries where the patients receive a prophylactic amount of Antibiotique in order to avoid any risk of infection.
Causes
The brain is in general protected from the infections because it is able very well only to be defended. This is why the infection of origin is often in another part of the body. The infection is propagated then by the Sang or the fabrics. Once the infection arrived at the brain, it develops and forms an abscess.
Symptoms
There are two type of cerebral abscesses on the level of the symptoms. Either the abscess settling without the patient does not realize there, or it arrives brutally, one says whereas the abscess is fulminant. The principal symptoms are a rise in the tension inside the cranium which causes nauseas and vomiting, a rise in the body Température, headaches, crises of epilespsy, somnolences, Convulsion S,… And in certain cases a Paralysie of one of the two parts of the body, or any other reduction in the capacities.
Treatment
The patient is treated using Antibiotique S. If the abscess does not reabsorb all alone, a surgical operation can be practiced. It consists in making a hole in the head of the patient and aspiring the contents of the abscess. If this method does not function, it is necessary to open the cranial box of the patient and to withdraw the abscess in entirety. This last method involves risks because if the chirugien damages a zone of the brain, the patient can remain paralyzed.
