Cerebellum
General information
- Situation : the cerebellum is with the base camp of the head.
- Entered : receives entries of the cerebral Cortex (in particular of the visual Cortex and cortex somatosensoriel) but also of the more direct entries coming from the skin and of the muscles.
- Left : towards the driving neurons, the thalamus and the cortex.
Anatomy
On the anatomical level the cerebellum is composed of three parts, the vermis (or average lobe of the cerebellum) and two symmetrical lobes side. The cerebellum is located in the posterior Fosse under the Tente of the cerebellum and under the occipital Lobe and behind of the cerebral Tronc. It is protected by the back from cranium, primarily by the occipital Os.The cerebellum is connected to the cerebral trunk by three pairs of cérébélleux stalks , a higher pair, the average and lower.
Vascularization
The cerebellum receives vascularization via three Artère S:- the higher cérébélleuse Artery, connects Artère basilaire, irrigant the cérébélleux cortex, the cérébélleux stalks higher and the cérébélleux cores.
- the antéro-lower cérébélleuse Artery, connects artery basillaire, vascularisant the former part of the vermis, the area of the cores of the nerves facials and vestibulocochléaires and part of the cérébélleux lobes.
- the postéro-lower cérébélleuse Artery, connects vertebral artery, bringing blood oxygenated to the cérébélleux stalk inferiors, the cérébélleux cores, and the lower part of the cérébélleux hemisphere
Functions
The cerebellum is implied in the calculation of the movements, the measurement of time, and various other driving and cognitive functions. The cerebellum distinguishes the feelings coming from actions from the subject from those which come from outside. In the case of feelings having due a voluntary behavior, the cerebellum would be able to inhibit the activity of the Cortex somatosensoriel. Thus, there is feeling but she is ignored. This inhibition lasts however rather little: she would be about a fifth of second. The cerebellum presents 3 parts: archéocerebellum, the paléocerebellum and the néocerebellum which is very developed at the Man.
Pathology
The lesions of the cerebellum involve many disorders generally summarized by the cérébélleux Syndrome. Paul Schilder (doctor, psychiatrist and philosopher) treated in particular these questions and showed how attacks with the cerebellum disturbs the way in which we see our body. The patients indeed tend to underestimate their weight, to imagine that they move a member whereas this one remains motionless or to perceive their body like too light and ready to fly away. The various causes of lesions are numerous with in the forefront, the alcoholic intoxication and the deficiency states which rise from a chronic intoxication. Very reached brutal of the cerebellum in the adult must make seek a metastatic lesion, the ischemic states of the cerebellum being one of the least frequent localizations of cerebral vascular accidents.
