Youri Borissovitch Norstein (in Russian: ЮрийБорисовичНорштейн) is a Russian scenario writer of animation born the September 15th 1941 with Andreievka, in the area of Penza.

Wire of a fitter in the industry of wood, it began its professional life while working in wood.

In 1959, it began a two years cycle of studies of painter-organizer to the Movie studio “Soyouzmoultfilm” where it started to work in 1961. Initially more attracted by painting than by animation, it solved to remain in this trade, in particular after the reading of works of Eisenstein.

He married Franceska Yarbousova, with which he had studied at the school of art of Moscow. It is its more faithful collaborator.

He currently works on an adaptation of the Manteau of Gogol, project which underwent multiple financial problems.

The totality of its work represents less than two early hours of program, to which it will have devoted all its life. It uses together many techniques of animation, and does not hesitate to put at the screen the fog or the water, which are of a difficult use in animation. Moreover, he is a Master of the depth of field and movements of apparatus.

Its films are of a great sensitivity, of a rare inventiveness. Poetry that they conceal is single. the Tale of the Tales was crowned better cartoon of all times.
