Central management of the General informations

The central management of the General informations ( DCRG ), often called the General informations ( RG or RGx ), is a service of the head office of the national police force (DGPN), dependant on this fact of the ministry for the Interior and member of the French Communauté of information . Its mission is “the research and the centralization of the information intended to inform the government”, primarily the information on the internal security. It is also in charge of the monitoring of the racecourses and the establishments of plays. The General informations appeared truly at the end of the XVIIIe century and their role evolved/moved with the passing of years.

Organization

It is divided into 2007 in four subdirectorates:

the subdirectorate of Research;
the subdirectorate of the Analysis, the Futurology and the Facts of company;
the subdirectorate of the Resources and Methods;
the subdirectorate of the Races and the Plays.

The members of the RG are fixed with the general scheme of the civils servant. They do not profit from the guarantees offered to the agents of the Direction of the monitoring of the territory which are covered by the secret defense (by anonymity in particular), which does not prevent, for some, to be entitled, the files being sometimes classified.

It is also to note, that in spite of the fact that all the police officers national have a legal qualification (APJ or OPJ), the agents working with the General informations lose their enabling as long as they exert in this direction, except for those pertaining to the subdirectorate of the plays and casinos.

According to a communication in the Council of Ministers of June 20th, 2007 on “the review general of the public policies”, “the fusion of the intelligence services” belongs to the priority building sites fixed by the Prime Minister. Criticisms

The files of the continuations against Corsican nationalists, like that of the Business of the prefect Erignac and the continuations against Yvan Colonna, and Breton nationalists in the Affaire of Plévin regularly bring criticisms against the work of the Central management of the general informations.

Reorganization of the security services in 2008

According to a bill presented in 2007 by the government, the service of the RG will be amalgamated with the DST (Direction of the Monitoring of the Territory) in 2008, under the new name: Central management of the interior information (DCRI). 80% of the personnel will be affected with this new service the branch “races and plays” of the RG, will be transferred to Central management from judicial police (DCPJ). As for the Police headquarter of Paris, its direction of General informations (RGPP), historically very particularistic, remains not attached to Direction of the Urban Police force of Proximity (PUP).
