The Central committee often refers to the principal authority of a political party, composed of deputy elected officials by the Congress of the party. It makes the decisions laying down the policy of the party and is generally responsible for the election of the members of the Political office.

Various central committees in the United States

With the the United States, the two principal parties policy, the Democratic party and the Republican party also have a Central committee.

It was also the case of the French RPR, which pushed the imitation with PCF until being equipped with a Political office (it on the other hand was not organized in cells).

Other organizations have a Central committee, like the church mennonitist, the Alcoholics anonymouses and the conscientious objector.
