The province indonésienne of central Kalimantan ( Kalimantan Tengah ), was created at the end of the Années 1950 starting from the province of Kalimantan of the South. One of the reasons was the concern of giving more autonomy to the populations Daya compared to the other groups.
The province is bordered in the west by that of Western Kalimantan, in the south by the sea of Java, in the east by the province of the Kalimantan of the South and in north by that of the Eastern Kalimantan. Its capital is Palangkaraya.
The population of the province was of 1,8 million inhabitants in 2000.
The territory corresponded approximately to that of the current province.
