Center scientific culture, technique and industrial

A center of scientific culture, technique and industrial (CCSTI) is a scientific place of popularization bound for the general public, in France.

History of the CCSTI

The history of the CCSTI falls under the continuity of the popularization of sciences: natural history musea of natural history of the 17th century, with the creation of the first CCSTI from France (in Grenoble) in 1979, then of the Quoted of sciences and industry in 1986. The purpose of the creation of these centers of popularization is actually very recent and is to help the individuals with better apprehending the world which surrounds them .

The recent creation of the CCSTI translates the public awakening of the existence of a shift growing and perilous, within Western civilization, between the technological developments of sciences and on the one hand and, on the other hand, the capacities of the citizens and their social or political persons in charge to include/understand it to control it. Definition of a CCSTI by the national Charter of the CCSTI

The term of CCSTI does not correspond to a label or a particular status: it can be a question of an association, a municipal structure, or of a service attached to a university or an university… To be declared CCSTI, a place of popularization must obey the national charter of the Center of Scientific culture Technical and Industrialist which defines them as follows:

a CCSTI is a structure having for mission of supporting the exchanges between the scientific community and the public. This mission falls under a step of division of the knowledge, of active citizenship, making it possible each one to approach the new dependant stakes with the increase in knowledge.

In this context, the CCSTI sticks particularly to the description of the implications and the consequences of this evolution on the environment of the citizen.

By the actions which it sets up, the CCSTI causes the emergence of an individual awakening, with the profit of a collective future, by improving knowledge of science and of its stakes by the citizens.

For this reason, the CCSTI continues a multi-field and transverse approach of the concept of science and technology and engages of the steps of partnership and implementation making it possible to imply a multitude of public, diversified in their origins and their geographical presences.

To support the individual and collective reflection on the place of science and technology in the company

Resource center and of diffusion of scientific informations:

A CCSTI is a place of dissemination of informations which contains, ideally, a resource center. It takes part in the emergence of project, is based on partnerships with regional scientific resources and on great regional organizations. .dont the mission is multiple. is to place at the disposal of the various actors of the scientific cultural mediation information which they need. Crossroads of the meetings and the exchanges:

The CCSTI has a big role to play in the development of partnerships on scale departmental, regional, national and even international. The meeting of the CCSTI contributes to the installation of these networks of exchanges.

Communication:

With an aim of touching the largest possible audience, the CCSTI has an important activity of communication.
