Center Georges-Vézina

The Center Georges-Vézina is largest Aréna of Saguenay, Quebec (Canada). It is located in the district of Chicoutimi, with the corner of the street Bégin and the boulevard of the Université. It bears the name of the former goalkeeper high-speed motorboat of the Canadian of Montreal, Georges Vézina, originating in the place.

The Georges-Vézina center is currently the residence of the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi, team of hockey of LHJMQ, and the Comets of Chicoutimi, club of speed skating. It was inaugurated in 1949 and underwent an important cure of renovation in 2001.

Characteristics of the masonry

  • Its capacity is of 4651 spectators (3683 sitted places). (ref. site LHJMQ)

  • the building is out of reinforced concrete, the rafter is out of steel and the roof is out of wood.

  • In 2001, one carried out the construction of corporative cabins at the northern side of the arena and the skating rink was redimensionnée to be of Olympic size (200 X 100 feet).

  • In the beginning, the arena was called the Colisée de Chicoutimi . It is often called Center Georges .

  • a giant screen will be installed for the season 2007-2008 which will allow the recoveries vidéos.
