Center Evil

The axis of the evil is a Slogan néo-conservative, which indicates the various countries suspected by the administration of George W. Bush of wanting to get Armes of massive destruction and of supporting the Terrorisme.

History and objective

This expression is due to David Frum, writer of the speeches of the president Bush, who employed it for the first time the January 29th 2002 at the time of sound Discours on the state of the Union.

It in particular was used by the Bush administration within the framework of the preparation of the American and international public opinion at the entry in Guerre in Iraq in 2003 and also at ends of political pressures on the countries concerned, by stigmatizing them and thus to put them at the round of applause international community.

References

The axis of the evil refers to two expressions:

  • oldest is that of the Axe Rome-Berlin, which indicated the countries faithful to the Germany Nazi during the Second world war.
  • the second is that of the empire of the evil , which was used by the president of the United States Ronald Reagan, to indicate the Soviet Union.

Indicated countries

The republican administration of George Walker Bush indicated in 2002 three country who form the axis of the evil (there would remain two about it today).

According to this administration, these countries would support terrorism and would have weapons of massive destruction or could get some, ou/et would tend to violate the treated non-proliferation and of Désarmement of the nuclear weapons which they signed.

In the case of Iraq, it was shown by the administration of George W. Bush to have weapons of massive destruction (WMD) and to have bonds with Al-Quaïda. No WMD was found, neither by the inspectors of UNO, nor by the Americans themselves. As for the bonds with the terrorist movement, the American senate recognizes that there does not exist any bond between the two.

The axis of the evil must be differentiated from the outpost of tyranny , composed of the countries indicated in the speech of Condoleezza Rice the January 18th 2005:

The concept of outpost of tyranny refers to the internal political regime, unlike the axis of the evil.

Criticisms

Although the majority of the Démocratie S recognize that these countries represent a danger to the stability and the peace of their area for various reasons, they are numerous to criticize this expression, which would be inaccurate, simplistic and which would throw more oil than of water on the fire of the discords which currently reign.

Inaccurate, because the word Axe implies a dialog of the country belonging to the Axis of the Evil, and although there are certainly associations between them (for example trade of weapons between the North Korea and Iran), there would be no clear proof indicating an explicit agreement between these countries against the United States.

Simplistic according to the critics who affirm that the phrase implies a world divided into two camps, that of the Bien which would be carried out by the the United States and that of the Mal represented by the countries named within the speech. Always according to criticisms, this vision of the world manichéenne would be far from reflecting the reality of the international relations.
