Center-of-Quebec

The Center-of-Quebec is an administrative area of the province of Quebec, on southern bank of the St. Lawrence, vis-a-vis Three-Rivers. It is made up of 5 regional municipalities of county (MRC) and 83 municipalities. It became an independent administrative area on July 30th, 1997.

Geography

Its terrtoire is located in the plains of the St. Lawrence and the mounts the Appalachian Mountains at the south east. Center-of-Quebec is crossed by the Rivière Saint-François, Rivière Nicolet and Rivière Bécancour.

The highway network is consisted the Autoroute 20, Autoroute 30, Autoroute 55 and Autoroute 955. The other important roads are Route 116. Road 122, Road 132, Road 143, Road 161, Road 243, Road 255, Road 265.

Arthabaska is a MRC made up of 24 municipalities: 4 cities, 8 municipalities, 1 village, 3 cantons and 8 parishes. Its chief town is Victoriaville.

Bécancour

Bécancour is a MRC made up of 12 municipalities: 1 city, 8 municipalities and 3 parishes. Its chief town is Bécancour.

The MRC of Bécancour wedges also the Indian reserve of Wôlinak, even if this one does not form part of it.

Drummond

Drummond is a MRC made up of 18 municipalities: 1 city, 10 municipalities, 1 village and 6 parishes. Its chief town is Drummondville.

the Maple is a MRC made up of 11 municipalities: 2 cities, 6 municipalities and 3 parishes. Its chief town is Plessisville.

Nicolet-Yamaska

Nicolet-Yamaska is a MRC made up of 16 municipalities: 1 city, 11 municipalities, 1 village and 3 parishes. Its chief town is Nicolet.

The MRC of Nicolet-Yamaska wedges also the Indian reserve of Odanak, even if this one does not form part of it.

Media

The area is served by the radio stations CFDA 101.9 and CFJO 97.3 in Victoriaville and Radio Energy 92.1 in Drummondville. There is no television station on the territory. The stations of Three-Rivers, Sherbrooke and Quebec gives local information.

The weekly newspapers the Express train of Drummondville and Nouvelle/L' Union are distributed in the area. The journeaux daily newspapers the Short story writer of Three-Rivers and the Platform of Sherbrooke cover local information.

Religion

The majority of the inhabitants are of Catholic religion and the majority of the parishes is attached to the Diocèse of Nicolet.
