Cenozoic
The Cénozoïque is the geological era current. It begins there is 65,5 ± 0.3 million years, is right after the disappearance Dinosaure S at the end of the Crétacé. It is preceded by the Mesozoic and continues nowadays.
The Cenozoic one is divided into two systems: the the Paleogene (including/understanding the 3 times of the Paleocene , the Eocene and the Oligocene ) and the Neocene (including/understanding the 4 times of the Miocène, the Pliocène, the Pleistocene and the Holocene ).
The old Tertiary subdivision in eras and Quaternaire was abandoned.
Preceding classification still regarded the Quaternary one as a posterior system with Neocene, gathering Pleistocene and Holocène ; since, the duration of the Néogène system was extended until the present.
The Cenozoic one is the era of the Mammifère S which, starting from some simple forms, diverged during this era in various junctions from terrestrial animals, marine and air. The evolution of the Angiosperme S and the Oiseau X was also significant during the Cenozoic one.
From a geological point of view, the continents continued to derive until occupying their current sites.
The separation of the Gondwana continued:
- the Australia and the New Guinea moved towards north;
- the the Antarctic came to be placed at the south pole;
- the Atlantic Ocean widened;
- more recently, the South America was attached to the North America.
