Cenci

Roman Cenci , family E famous for its richnesses, its crimes and its misfortunes, was claimed resulting from the consul Crescence: one of its members, wire of a prefect of Rome, and prefect himself, caused in 1075 a riot against the pope Gregoire VII and retained it captive.

This family took part in the First crusade with Bohémond I {{er}} and to papacy, the Middle Ages, a certain number of servants gave including one in charge of finances at the 15th century.

The most famous character of this family is Francesco Cenci, which lived at the end of the 16th century. Its manners were extremely corrupted; he was marked several times of an infamous defect, and bought his judges at ransom price. He had four wire and a girl, Béatrix Cenci; he maltreated them cruelly or made them be used for its brutal pleasures; one even shows it to have made assassinate the two elder ones.

Revolted of such an amount of horrors, Béatrix, his/her daughter, in.liaison.with two of her brothers and Lucrèce, their mother, made assassinate Francesco Cenci. Shown Parricidal , they perished all four on the scaffold by the sentence of Clément VIII (1605). This sad event made a major impression on the people of Rome, and during several centuries the name of Béatrix Cenci was preserved in the popular songs. It was also spent several times on the scene. The torment of Cenci was reproduced by several painters, in particular by Paul Delaroche. One sees today in Rome, in the palate Colonna, his portrait by Guido Reni.

The Stendhal novelist will draw a news from it: Cencis . Antonin Artaud took as a starting point Stendhal and by Shelley to write its part Cenci which is used as first (and single) test with the Théâtre of cruelty.
