Cemetery of Montparnasse

The cemetery of Montparnasse is a Cimetière Paris IEN located in the 14 {{E}} district.

Out of the limits of the capital were created the Cimetière of Montmartre in north, the Cimetière of the Father-Lachaise in the east, the cemetery of Montparnasse in the south and, in the middle of the city, the Cimetière of Passy.

The site was formerly occupied by three old firm, but at the 17th century, this ground became the private Nécropole religious of Saint-Jean-of-God. At the beginning of the 19th century Nicolas Frochot, prefect of the the Seine, made buy the grounds of the city to open there one of the three cemeteries extra-muros of Paris, and the first burial took place the July 25th 1824.

There still remains in the cemetery a tower of one of many the Moulin S with Farine which populated the districts of Montsouris and Montparnasse.

With its 19 Hectare S, the second necropolis intramurally of Paris is also one of the most important green areas of the capital. 1  there is counted; 200 Tree S, primarily of the Lime S, the Sophora S, the Thuja S, the maple S, the Ash S and the Coniferous S.
