Louis Corman was born in 1901 and died in 1995. He is the inventor of the Morphopsychologie. Its work enabled him to publish many works on the sujet.
It is at the origin of the founded French company of Morphopsychologie in 1980.

Its ideas: the law of dilation-retraction

Origin

The morphological approach of its patients by the Lyons doctor Claude Sigaud marked several of its pupils. It is by meeting them and while being inspired directly by the opuscule published by the latter in 1914 the Human form. Its Significance that Louis Corman established the law of dilation-retraction . Already for the needs for the Medicine, Claude Sigaud proposed associations between the medium, the body functions and the appearance presented by the patient. From the point of view of comprehension of the men, Louis Corman generalized these interactions by still underlining their dynamic character. On these given bases and while concentrating on the face, it could take again certain elements of the physiognomic tradition and bring a coherence and rationality unknown factors there hitherto. (Sources: “Which was Claude Sigaud? ”, article of Louis Corman, in “the review of morphopsychology”, October 1987).

The law of dilation-retraction

Louis Corman poses as essential postulates of the morphopsychologic analysis that the full and round body forms are the expression of the instinct of expansion whereas the shapes in hollow or punts are the expression of the instinct of self-preservation . So as of its arrival in the world, each organization is animated of the two instincts; more or less great affinity with the usual medium or the events met will give, according to the cases, the priority with the one of them and will reinforce the forms either dilated or retracted , in a permanent interaction.

This diagram would be enough to include/understand the play between the diversity of lived individual and that of appearances: an environment favorable subjectively for an individual stimulates his instinct of expansion, which, in the long term, results in features of blooming and thus of volume, whereas a more hostile environment (subjectively) makes him mobilize its instinct of self-preservation and induces at his place, in the long term, a restriction of its forms: it is the retraction .

Any individual being of a great complexity compared to this principle, the face, particularly, translated in fact according to certain zones a more or less great expression of the instinct of expansion or conversely of conservation. For example, the face can give the index of a blooming while the remainder of the face is marked more difficult traces of relationships to the environment… This space differentiation being able in theory to continue always more finely in so far as the experiment of the morphopsychologist is sufficient.

The application of the law

If ever in his work, Louis Corman did not move away from the rational base of the law which it put at the day, nor separated confidence which it put in it, he has of being pressed on always suspect elements of empiricism to give greatest efficiency to the morphopsychology. It is thus necessary to pass over various loans still confining to the physiognomy to hope to appreciate its relevance in practice.

As of its first handbooks, it establishes a specific typology and it gives a face to former or contemporary typologies like that of the Caractérologie.

In other contributions, he worked to show the utility and the applications of the morphopsychology in various fields.
