Celtic Frost
Celtic Frost is a group of metal Suisse having touched with about all the sensitivity of this kind of music: Thrash metal while passing by the death the black, having had one period Avant-garde metal and doom. The leader of the group, Thomas Gabriel Fischer, is of origin Suisse and changed his name for Tom Warrior towards the beginning of his career. With Bruce Day and Steve Warrior, it forms Hellhammer in 1982. The popularity of Hellhammer grows with close to a local audience and the group signs with Noise Records in Germany.
In 1984, Hellhammer metamorphoses in a Gothic group more and traditional, Celtic Frost. Their first LP, Morbid Bruise (1984), obtains success on the European scene metal and the group makes its first round in Germany and Austria. Their second album (in 1985), To Mega Therion , obtains as much success than their first. The illustration of the small pocket before To Mega Therion is a work of H.R. Giger entitled “Satan I” and gone back to 1977.
In 1987, Celtic Frost leaves one the LP most influential on the level of the heavy metal to Europe with Into the Pandemonium , integrating a new sound, more traditional, with the Death metal.
At the time of an American round , the group dissolves following financial problems and of tension between the members of the group. Six months later, Tom Warrior decides to recreate the group with Stephen Priestly, Oliver Amberg and Curt Victor Bryant. In spite of its will, Warrior does not carry great interest to the album and the producing Tony Platt and Amberg deals with the recording of Cold Lake . They transform the sound death metal into commercial rock'n'roll thrash/glam and the album is a total failure.
Warrior puts Amberg at the door and he convinces Ron Marks to join the group for the exit of Vanity/Nemesis in 1990. The album is a great success but the reputation of the group is not restored completely. Many the texts speak about the religion in an ambiguous way. Brought by Tom Warrior, Marks leaves the group again, but is replaced soon by Martin Eric Ain. The last album of Celtic Frost is the box Parched With Thirst Am I and Dying left in 1992.
The group was recently reformed with Tom Gabriel Fischer (song and rhythmic guitar), Martin Ain (low), Reed St Mark (battery) and Erol Unala (guitar solo). In 2003, one learns that the group works on the recording of new a opus. Fischer and Unala take part in a title of the album of Probot, the metal project of the old beater of Nirvana, Dave Grohl.
In spring 2006, Reed St Mark left the group once again, like Erol Unala. Tom Fischer and Martin Aim recruit Franco Sesa with the battery then. The new album Monotheist (left on May 29th, 2006 at Century Media) presents a darker Celtic Frost and doom that never. Once again, the Swiss ones proved that they could evolve/move without being repeated.
