Cellach

Cellach mac Máel Coba mac Áedo was laughed Ard Érenn unites 642 with 658.

Cellach is the son of laughed Ard Érenn Máel Coba mac Áedo and the nephew of powerful laughed Ard Érenn Domnall mac Áedo.

It seems that he succeeded its uncle jointly with his brother Conall Cóel in 643.

However this rupture of alternation between the Uí Neill of North and the South in favor it Cenél Conaill appears to have met a strong opposition emanating of Síl nÁedo Sláine of the Uí Neill of the South. The Annales of Ulster indicate the same year indeed:

" It is dubious of knowing which reigned after Domnall.Quelques historiographers evoke four kings: Cellach and Conall Cóel mac Máel Coba mac Áedo and two wire of Áed Sláine mac Diarmaid mac Fergus Cerbaill mac Conall Cremthain mac Niall Noigiallach i.e Diarmaid and Blathmac"

In addition it seems that the two kings had to face also with their own family. The analysts raise the battle of Dun Cremthain gained by both Cellach brother and Conall Cóel in 650 against Aengus mac Domnall which was probably their first cousin.

Let us note finally that Annals of Ulster record the death of Cellach with Brugh Mic Year Og in two years different: 658 and 664! The joint reign of the brothers Diarmait Ruanaid and Blathmac mac Áed Sláine makes following those of Cellach and Conall Cóel.
