Celia Cruz

Celia of Caridad Cruz Alfonso alias Celia Cruz (October 21st 1925 - July 16th 2003) was a singer of cuban Musique and Salsa. It was originating in Santo Suarez , a poor district of Havana. Child, it gained his first pair of Chaussure S in Chant ant for a couple of tourists.

Adolescent E, his/her aunt led it to sing in Cabaret S. His/her father wanted that it continues its studies to become teacher, but a teacher said to him that it would gain in one day what a teacher gains in one year. Ella gained thereafter many contests of Chant. In 1950, it becomes the singer of the cuban group Sonora Matancera, known in all the Latin America and called Café idiot Leche (coffee with milk). Celia Cruz finds its word fetish then: ¡ Azúcar! (of the Sugar).

In 1960, at the time of the cuban revolution, Celia emigrated in the United States. In 1961, it plays with its orchestra with the Hollywood Palladium. In 1962, it marries its trumpet player, Pedro Knight. In 1965, it starts a career solo, and takes American nationality.

In 1966, Celia Cruz and Tito Puente began their association, publishing eight albums together for Tico Records.

Some notable titles are Guantanamera and Bemba colorá in 1967, Aquarius/Let the sunshine in in 1969 (a Reprise again of the title of the Musical comedy Hair ), Quien will be (Sway) .

In spite of that, these albums did not have discounted success and Celia signed then at Vaya Records. She collaborated with Larry Harlow, giving a concert to the Carnegie Hall of New York.

In 1974, the album " Celia there Johnny" with Johnny Pacheco, was disc of gold and Celia Cruz joined the Fania All Stars, composed of the best musicians of the Fania recording company, with which it will make a round with the the United Kingdom, in France, to the Zaire and in Latin America. In 1976, Celia Cruz sings for Willie Colón. Notable titles: Usted Abuso and Toro subdued (with Johnny Pacheco).

It returns celebrates the slogan " ¡ Esto sí be volar! " airline company Eastern Airlines in Puerto Rico.

In the Years 1980, it made many concerts and duets. In 1988, it took part in the film Hollywoodien Salsa, with Robi Draco Rosa and in 1992 with the film Mambo Kings with Antonio Banderas.

In 2001, it left an album produced inter alia by Johnny Pacheco.

In July 2003 she succumbs following a tumor Cancer euse to the Cerveau, at her, with Fort Lee (New Jersey). She is buried with the Cimetière of Woodlawn.

In February 2004 was published its last album post-mortem, which gained the price Lo Nuestro of the best album Salsa of the year. It is the female artist of the year at the price Lo Nuestro 2005 .
