Celebrates of the King of the Bird

The Fêtes of the King of the Bird are a popular demonstration, colourful, and of a high cultural behavior, relating to the search of truth, or the probable one, costumes of time of the XVI° century, daily life, trades, musics or dances. They are held the third week of September, in the city of the Puy-en-Velay.

History

Origins

They is in 1986, that are created the Fêtes Rebirth of the King of the Bird , resulting from the old tradition of the Shooting to the King.

Festivals

A delegation of the representatives of the countries of Velay, recovers fire with Loudes, and offer to the inhabitants Isles , the breads cooked in the furnaces of the communes. Acceuillis Carries Pannessac, the procession go to the covered Lice , located Place of Breuil , for the cérémnie of opening. Spectacles of street, artists and craftsmen European, exposures, on the topic of the Rebirth and the XVI° century, with final, the contest of the Shooting of the Bird and the Large historical procession.

The Shooting of the Bird

Each Whit Monday, bows and arquebusiers contributed to cut down a bird of rag, the Papegaï . The winner, proclaimed King, for one year, received the keys of the city of the Puy, with right to the port of the sword, the rank of consul, commander of a company of arquebusier… but it was to water and give collation to the public.

Isles

The community of agglomeration is composed, since 1990, of eight Isles :
  1. Miramande: culture of the Rebirth.
  2. Viguerie: the space of poetry, and the worms.
  3. Estrapade: District of the bracket of the Ronzon Mount, or the brigands were hung.
  4. Lioussac: Elixir and potions, plants medicinal or aromatic.
  5. Panaveyre: work of the vine… and thus of the wine.
  6. Papelengue: soldier, artillerists, and other scenes of engagements.
  7. Mochafède: space travelling acrobat, with festivals, songs and dances.
  8. Garamentes: for the strange sword, penmanship, potions.

Spectacles of street

Processions, (night, set of themes and history), balls of street (ball Rebirth, ball of harvest, ball of the King…), concerts or spectacles (magic, songs, travelling acrobats, jugglers, adjusters…), always colourful, because in costume of time, spectators included/understood.

Costumes

On the topic of the Rebirth, to dress up is to be a truly actor to take part in the quette of truth : many possibilities of hirings, purchases, purses of exchange, or your own creations.
