Cedar Walton

Cedar Anthony Walton, Junior (born the January 17th 1934 with Dallas with the Texas) is a Pianiste of Jazz Hard bop.

Biography

Walton is originating in Dallas like Charlie Christian and Red Garland. After having attended the University of Denver, Walton moved with New York in 1955; he made two years of army in Germany playing with musicians like Leo Wright, Don Elect and Eddie Harris then joined the orchestra of Kenny Dorham. Towards the end of the year 1950, Walton played with J.J. Johnson, the whole of Art Farmer and Benny Golson like Gigi Gryce. In 1959, it took part in the album Giant Steps of John Coltrane.

With the beginning of the year 1960, it joined for three years the Messengers Jazz of Art Blakey like arranger and played then with Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard. Towards the end of the year 1960, it belonged to the Rhythm section label " Records" Prestige; and recorded with Sony Criss, Pat Martino, Eric Kloss and Charles McPherson.

About the middle of the years 1970, Walton directed the group Funk Mobius. He recorded also with Abbey Lincoln, Lee Morgan and directed the " group; Eastern Rebellion ".

" Bolivia" is one of the most known compositions of Walton, like " Fantasy in D" recorded under the title " Ugetsu" by Art Blakey in 1963.
