Cecile of Rome

Sainte Cecile of Rome is a Christian Sainte . She would have lived with Rome, at the first times of Christianity. Its legend makes of it a virgin who, married of force, continued to respect her vow of chastity. It is celebrated the November 22nd. Sainte Cécile is the owner of the Musiciens.

She lived in Sicily, according to Venance Fortunat, and died for the faith with Rome at one dubious time (176 or 230). She would finally have been condemned to martyrdom, after having converted many people, of which his/her husband. The acts of its martyrdom do not have anything authentic.

A passage of its legend affirms that while going to martyrdom she heard a celestial music. This anecdote will make the owner of the musicians of it, the violin makers and other manufacturers of musical instruments. One represents it with a crown of flowers, a seedling of Lys, an musical instrument and a sword.

Raphaël, Dominiquin, Carlo Dolci, left us admirable tables of holy Cécile. Dryden composed in its honor a famous ode. Henry Purcell composed in 1692 the Ode with Holy Cecile Hail! Bright Cecilia . The French group My shoes are red also made a song bearing the name " Holy-Cécile" in their Close album.
