Ceawlin
Ceawlin of Wessex (other orthographies: " Ceaulin" or " Caelin") is described in the Anglo-Saxon Chronique like king of Saxon of the west, i.e. Wessex of 560 with 591.
It is regarded by Bède in its Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum as the second king to exert the imperium on the other kingdoms Anglo-Saxon. In the Anglo-Saxon Chronic , written at the end of the ninth century, Ceawlin is indicated like a Bretwalda. Always according to the chronicle, he died in 593, one year after being overcome and being deposited by Ceol with the Bataille of Woden' S Barrow.
Origin
Cewlin is presented by the Anglo-Saxon Chronique like the son of Cynric but its reliability is dubious, these authors having sought to reduce all the kings from Wessex of Cerdic. In addition, the places associated with Ceawlin are around the traditional territory of the Gewissae in the Oxfordshire, while the capacity of Cerdic and Cynric was centered on Southampton.
