History
The village of Cazouls-lès-Béziers was founded at the first century after Jesus-Christ by the Romains, and its name would originate in the Latin word " casulae" , drifting of " casa" who indicates a house, signs that dwellings would have been present for a long time (Gallo-Roman villas). This etymology remains however dubious.
It is located in an archaeologically rich zone: indeed, in the neighbouring grounds, one could find sarcophagi Gallo-Roman, jewels and other parts out of metal, and remainders of dwellings of the same time. One also knows, not far from the village, a raised stone being connected with the menhirs, and several Gallo-Roman villas (villa of Muscadelles, villa of the Three-Tables).
The village also keeps traces of the medieval period, where it was surrounded by ramparts intended to protect it from the invasions.
