The plain of Cazaux
The plain of Cazaux extends on the northern slope from the lake towards the Bassin from Arcachon. It was the place of many unfruitful experiments as for the development of the Landes of Gascogne in particular at the 18th century when a Financier Suisse Daniel Néser went bankrupt while trying to cultivate these fertile grounds. At the 19th century, the " Industrial and agricultural company of Arcachon" undertook to cultivate potatoes, Betterave S and fruit trees always without success. The Maritime pine remains indeed the only resource of this area thanks to the Gemmage, which will spread in all the moors starting from second half of the 19th century, thus sweeping the agro-pastoral system largely widespread in the area.
One finds today in the plain of Cazaux a Air base 120 (B.A. 120), built in 1914.
