Cavtat
Cavtat , pronounced in Croatian tsavtate , is a small town posed on a Presqu'île, to 20 km in the south of Dubrovnik in Croatia.
For a few years, Cavtat has developed touristiquement, but it remained an authentic city. The city owes its charm particular to many buildings of the time of the Republic of Dubrovnik. This one made build the old city of Cavtat following the urban project which it had worked out. The majority of the historic buildings belong to the moderate and beautiful style of Renaissance architecture, with traces of the Gothic style: Palates of the Captain, fortifications, strengthened enclosure of the city, places, Saint Nicolas's Day church, Church Our-Lady-of-Cavtat and brood of Franciscains.
Today peaceful, Cavtat occupied a paramount place in the history of the area. Founded by the Greeks, the Epidaurus colony was conquered by the Romans in 228 av. J. - C. and was famous Civitas Vetus what will give the name of Cavtat. One can discover under the sea the vestiges of the ancient city. The arrival of Slavic at the 7th century caused the decline of the city but the survivors took refuge on a rock small island called Laus close to the coast, to 20 km more in north in Dubrovnik.
