Cavalaire-on-Sea

Cavalaire-on-Sea is a common French, located in the department of the Var and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

Cavalaire is located on the Mediterranean coast, between Saint-Tropez and Lavandou, in the department of the VAr (83), at the bottom of bay of the same name, and with the foot of the first slopes of the Massif of the Moors. Is attached to the commune the hamlet of the Date palm (old station of the Train of the Pine cones).

Known as a seaside resort, two types of beaches there are found: that of bay, long 3 kilometers length sand beach, and splits in the east of the Cape Cavalaire, like Bonporteau, or Nasque, with the hamlet of the Date palm.

History

Cavalaire-on-sea is probably an old colony phenician of the name of Héracléa Cacabaria. One finds also remainders of a Gallo-Roman occupation with Pardigon.

The commune was detached from Gassin in 1929.

The village is placed on the layout of the old railway Saint-Raphaël - Toulon (sometimes called Train of the Pine cones), now disappeared. One can however notice the site of the old railway and follow his layout (and this on a good part of the coast since Lavandou until Saint-Raphaël, exists even in Cavalaire a " Way of the Train of Pignes").

The village was also the place of military big operations at the time of the unloading combined in Provence during the Second world war: each year with the August 15th are thus organized one ravels military cars and a reconstitution of military camping.

Personalities related to the commune

During the summer, it is not rare to cross Vincent Lagaf on his jet-ski in bay of Cavalaire, surfer on the " énormes" waves what creates the shuttles which connect Cavalaire to the Îles of Hyères. You will be able to also take some steps on the Quay Patrice Martin, in the honor of the 13 times world champion of Water skiing which was the godfather of the Water skiing Club of Cavalaire.
