Causse-and-Veyran

Causse-and-Veyran are a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Caussanais

Geography

Located on the road (D19) between MURVIEL and ROQUEBRUN, CAUSSES and VEYRAN, charming village of Languedoc (canton of MURVIEL, District of BEZIER, Department of HERAULT) account more than one half-thousand of Caussannaises and Caussannais. Its vineyard (of Saint-Chinian), its town hall, its streets, its Romance church, its hamlet of VEYRAN with the Saint-Sever vault, its pillars/turns, its landscapes and its vegetation, but especially its inhabitants and their traditions make all the charm of it. The Causse territory reaches banks of Orb. It is dominated by Puech or Montpeyroux. It is possible to pay there the pleasant ones and pretty walks but attention the summer sun of midday. The “geological” walk is interesting considering the diversity of the rocks met. Causse-and-Veyran comprises: the center of the village (with its heart), the town hall, schools, of new allotments, a principal hamlet (Veyran) like some properties.

History

Origin (probable) of the name: - Causses: of Caucio (1 199), Latin calx: lime, hones with lime; - Veyran: name of man Varius or Verius and suffix anun. A prehistoric site (Pradines) attests seniority of the place. A long time the village was in the orbit of Cessenon.

The Father Vanière (famous Latinist) and Jules Milhau (former mayor, economist, initiator of the movement of the co-operatives) are two outstanding personalities originating in Causse-and-Veyran.
