Cattégat

The Cattégat , in Danish Kattegat , in Swedish Kattegatt , is a Détroit or a bay, between the Denmark and the Sweden, more precisely between the Danish Péninsule of the Jutland and the Swedish province of Halland.

Geography

Kattegat connects to north via the Skagerrak with the the North Sea. To the south, it connects the the Baltic either via the Øresund to south-east, or via the channel of the Grand Belt (Storebælt) and that of the Petit Belt (Lillebælt) in south-west. Kattegat is stretched on more than 220 km on a NORTH-SOUTH axis. Its average depth east 23 m.

History

The name Kattegat comes from the Dutch and means hole of cat , because its narrowness and the shallow waters return the sea Transport difficult.
