Catherine Sforza
Catherine Sforza ( Italian Caterina in ), born towards 1463 with Milan and deceased on May 28th 1509 with Florence, was the natural girl of Galéas Marie Sforza, duke of Milan in Italy and of the countess Lucrèce Landriani.
She married, in 1484, Jerome Riario (1443-1488), lord of Imola and Forli, brother of the archbishop of Florence and papal legate for Italy Pierre Riario and nephew of the pope Sixte IV. She became thus princess of Forli (1480 - 1500) and had a child of this first marriage, a son called Ottavio.
Riots occurred in Forlì in 1488 and her husband was assassinated by revolted. She succeeds in turning over crowd in her favor, recovered the government of Forlì and married, in 1489, Giacomo Feo (1468-1495, assassinated), secretary of her preceding husband.
She married in third weddings, in 1497, Jean known as '' Popolano '' (1467-1498) of the family Médicis, then ambassador of Florence in Forlì. She had this union, in 1498, a child called Jean and who will make famous like Condottiere under the name of Jean of the Black Bands ( Giovanni Dalle Band Italian Nere in ), deceased in 1543, and which will be the father of Cosme I {{er}} first large-duke of Tuscany.
In 1499, it had to support a seat against César Borgia which made it imprison and became lord of Forlì to his continuation. Louis XII made him return freedom.
It was a woman equipped with a voluntary and independent temperament which represented the female ideal of the Italian Renaissance. Today still, its name symbolizes the energy and the engagement of the women vis-a-vis the adversity and the roueries.
It was also expert in remedies of medicine and beauty care that itself prepared and tested. Its experiment enabled him to write a work of receipts and manufactoring processes: Liber of experimentiis Catherinae Sfortiae .
Its portrait, painted by Lorenzo di Credi, is preserved at the museum of Forlì, in Italy. It is known under the name of rammed It dei gelsomini (the lady with the jasmines) .
