Catherine Leroy

Catherine Leroy (born in 1945 - died the July 7th 2006 with Los Angeles) was a Photographe and to defer French war .

Biography

In 1966, Catherine Leroy goes to the Vietnam to cover the war there. It is built-in 1967 within the 173th Airborne to assist with the operation “Junction City”. It is wounded during the combat.

In 1968, it is captured by the army Vietcong which lets to him take photographs during its detention. It succeeds in escaping and taking along with it these rare documents devoted to the other belligerent. The photographs will appear later on the cover of the magazine Life . In 1972, it carries out film “The Last Patrol” which recalls the history of the movement against the war of Vietnam. During the Years 1970, it goes in various countries in war: Somalia, Afghanistan, Libya, Iran, Iraq. In 1976, it is the first woman to receive the Prix Robert Capa Gold Medal for its photographs of the street battles to Beirut at the time of the Guerre of Lebanon.

She died on July 7th, 2006 of the continuations of a Cancer with Los Angeles where she lived.
