Cathedral of Paraná
The Cathédrale of Paraná is the most important church of the town of Paraná in Argentine, capital of the province of Between Ríos, and the seat of sound Archevêché. Its architecture is typical eclectic style in honor at the end of the XIXe century, both in Argentina and in Europe.
The cathedral, which is the most important work of Juan Bautista Arnaldi, was carried out in 1882. This architect belonged to the group of architects who created Argentinian monumental architecture, known as years 1880 ( Generación LED 80 ).
It illustrates the eclectic taste of the time, i.e. the mixture of elements the old ones and styles without historical report/ratio.
A little history
The current building is the fourth which one built on the site. The first three constructions had been successively built in 1732, 1753 with 1756, then in 1807.
The last building, built better than the precedents, was demolished in 1882 to leave the place to the current building. Thus the cathedral it was inaugurated as of 1885 and devoted one Sunday of October, feastday of the Virgin of the Rosary, sponsors town of Paraná.
Description
Its frontage is of Renaissance style, its cupolas are Byzantine. It has six Corinthian columns, crowned sheets of acanthus. It has three doors whose principal one is located at the center of the frontage, between the two others. The bell-tower counts four bells, of which largest was molten in the residence even of the general chair Justo Jose de Urquiza, thanks to the gifts of the believers of objects out of gold and silver. The three others were brought since the missions guaranies.
The enclosure is decorated of 92 columns whose principal ones are in Marbre of Carrare. On the right presbytery is the historical museum of the cathedral, having parts of great value.
The Cathedral of Paraná was declared national Historic building by a decree of the February 4th 1942.
The archdiocese of Paraná
The Diocèse of Paraná was high with the row of Archidiocèse in 1934, by the pope Pie XI. The cathedral is thus the center of the ecclesiastical Province of Paraná. This one includes/understands the following dioceses:
