Catí
Catí is a common to the north of the Valencian community in Spain. It belongs to the Province of Castellón and more precisely to the area ( Comarque ) of the Haut-Maestrazgo ( Alto Maeztrazgo in Castilian, Alt Maestrat into Valencian). Its population in 2005 is of 857 inhabitants.

Geography
The commune of Catí is located at 661 meters of altitude to the top of the sea level, in the middle of a full valley that is called " the corridor of Catí" , in the comarque one of Alt Maestrat, geographically with the limit between els Ports, comarque to which it appartiet historically, and Baix Maestrat, in the center of the mountainous area which links els ports of Morella with the mountains of Maestrazgo ( sierra of Vallivana , el tosal of Nevera and Barbuda ).

Administration
History
January 25th 1239, Blasco de Alagón granted a charter of repopulation for Catí, in Ramón de Bocona and forty other men, fact which was confirmed by the king Jacques Ier the Conqueror, on November 5th, 1243. According to the names of these first inhabitants, one can suppose that they came from the grounds of Lleida. After having obtained the possession of the village of Onda, Ramón de Bocona will sell its good of Catí with In Ramon Castellà in 1268. The year 1374, Jaume Castellà again will sell Catí at the town of Morella.Catí took part in all the historical events which saw the participation of the city of Morella. Thus, the men of Catí took share with the conquest of Mers el Kebir, Oran and Bougie, in the boat of Bayle de Morella. The town of Catí, associated with the other villages, started in 1292 a lawsuit against Morella, which was concluded only in 1691. At the conclusion of this lawsuit, he to them was conceded independence.
Economy
During centuries, the most widespread industry was in Catí that of the manufacture of wool fabrics. For that, a considerable number inhabitants worked in the trades of shearers, carders, and tisserands like in those of the trade. The richness that people of Catí of the Rebirth accumulated as a practitioner trades, was such as their sons could attend various European universities of their time.
In XVIe century, Catí counted more than nine thousand heads of animals. Today, like yesterday, the products are famous which one obtains in the form of lambs and kids that the hotel trade of the zone endeavors to prepare with a great success. A modern installation equipped with the projection techniques in the development of cheeses, markets the milk of the herds without to have given up neither its traditional development, nor the presentation under which they are sold in the markets. The cheeses of Catí are consumed in places very far away from the village.
