Castle of the Rocks (Beavers)

At the time of the Romanticism, this house of Bièvres belonged to Bertin Elder the (1776 - 1841), patron and director of the Journal of DEBATEs . Of 1815 with 1841, its living room literary attracted all that the political world and of arts counted of more eminent: Chateaubriant, Berlioz, Ingres, Liszt… Chateaubriant, old friend of the Bertin family, came as a neighbor from the Valley-with-Wolves.

The most famous host was incontestably Victor Hugo, which remained with the Castle on several occasions of 1828 to 1837. Hugo, his wife, his children, took notches it Place of the Vosges (then Royale place) and went down to Sceaux from where a correspondence led them to Bièvres.

They were at Bertin like on their premises; the poet isolated himself to write or was going to walk in the valley of the Beaver and the wood of Verrières. He composed of the poems, which were gathered in the Rays and the shades , the Feuilles of Fall , and the Songs of the twilight .

The property was aquise for 49 franc million (7,5  M€) in 1989 by the sect Sōka Gakkai which re-elects it " Literary house Victor Hugo".
