The Castle of the Curve , is located at 2 km of Brée in Mayenne, on the road going of Brée to Saint-Christophe-of-Luat the.
Description
“ the castle of the Curve, in the south-east and two kilometers of the borough, enjoyed the title châtellenie with high, average and noncontentious low-justice. The ground was made up of the field with taxable quota, revenues and rights seigneuriaux on the major part of the parish, and two hundred arpens of moors in the moors of the Charnie, in Livet and Saint-Christophe-of-Luat the. This castle raised for its high, average and low justice and for what carry the ditches, the pre one of the Room, the fields and meadows of the Marshes, of the Chapter of Mans by its châtellenie of Adze-the-Béranger; of Sir, brother of the king, for the two hundred arpens of moors of Charnie; and of the castle of Brée, with faith and liege homage, for the surplus and its title of Châtellenie . ”Construction
- At the 12th century, a habitat seigneurial with mound and manor was built on the site, near to 400 m, the Murailles .
- In first half of the 13th century is built a big room (18 m X 11 m) without stage, probably with nave, is equipped with a monumental chimney. Two medallions decorate the wall on the southern pinion: there that of left presents a tiger-cat which is reflected in a mirror, believing to see the image of its small; that of right-hand side shows to a bearing rider in its left arm a young tiger and holding in the right hand a mirror.
- In the middle of the 14th century, a second building, the old home , with specific entry, is built in angle of the big room, which is then narrowed on the level of the central nave, and the chimney moved on the western wall, built at that time. A kitchen and its dependences are also built perpendicularly of the big room. Substantially modified and raised thereafter, this building constitutes the new home .
- Towards the end of the 14th century, a stage is added to the top of the big room and makes it possible to install a high room followed by a square room which still exists. The openings of the big room are altered; a tower of latrines is built with the south-eastern angle of the big room and serves, via an external gallery, the two parts of the stage.
- In 2nd half of the 15th century, of broad transformations is operated: transformation of the old home into kitchen, construction of the turn of gloriette , of the vault, heightening of half is new home , construction of a tower of latrines.
- Towards 1560 one completes the heightening of the new home , with Upper House and cabinet. the gallery is continued towards the west to serve the places. On the frontage, one surmounts the windows of pediments with decorations of volutes and fire pots.

Lords
The family Vayer
The first lords of the Curve, recognized by authentic titles, belonged to the family Vayer, of Voutré, family of riders.- Jean Vayer of Voutré, quoted as of 1299. Officer of Henri d' Avaugour, baron de Mayenne, it represents in 1301 the nobility of the Maine against the assistance requested by Charles de Valois, count of Anjou and the Maine, at the time of the marriage of his daughter Isabelle. He married before 1320 the girl of Patrice (or Patry) of Sourches and was of this lord chief of Sourches-Vayer as Saint-Symphorien.
- Patry Vayer , its 3rd sons, rider, succeeds his 2 brothers and takes in 1361 the title of lord of Sourches and Pescheray . A document of 1364 indicates it as being the husband of Marguerite , girl of Jean Chevalier. He died towards 1379. Of its marriage with Marguerite Chevalier were resulting, inter alia children, Jean and Perrette .
- Jean Vayer , wine waiter of the king, rider, lord of Sourches, Pescheray and Voutré , succeeded his/her father towards 1379. It belonged to the annoying ride in the forest of the Mans the August 5th 1392 with Charles VI. It was killed the October 25th 1415 with Azincourt. The January 18th 1398, Jean Vayer had ratified “the marriage and gift made by Marguerite, formerly woman of fire Mr Patry Vayer, knight, with Lord Jean de Vassé, knight, and Perrotte his wife, girl of known as Patry” , “confirmed by will of known as Patry, of the grounds of Montchauveau, the Curve, and of the Beams of Brée, for all that the aforementioned Perrette could claim are successions as well paternal as maternal” . By this marriage, towards 1380, Perrette Vayer thus brought the Curve to the Famille of Vase.

- Jean de Vassé , husband of Perrette Vayer , is counted in the watch of the company of ordinance of the constable Bertrand of Guesclin in 1370. In 1402 it made several gifts with the chaplain of its castle. Become widowed, the lord of Vase married in second weddings Jehanne de Landevis before 1410. Grognet de Vassé benefitted from the reverses of fortune of his/her Jean cousin Vayer to increase his inheritance: the November 14th 1422, it repurchases the ground of Voutré and the feudal withdrawal of stocks to him; the May 10th 1423, it, exerts its right of retirement and acquires the ground of Sourches at Guillaume Richier, lawyer, for 3000 pounds tournaments. He dies before the December 18th 1423; on this date, the receiver of Holy-Suzanne, Jean Gaultier, receives “lady Jeanne Cornue, veufve of Jean Groignet de Vassé 60 ecus of gold and 120 pounds sums of money for the sale of the contract that Guillaume Richer had faict for Chources” . The April 30th 1424, “lady Jehanne Retort, lady of the Curve, widowed deffunct Grognet de Vassé” makes faith and homage to the Chapter of Mans because of the ground of the Curve.
- Jeanne Horned the , become widowed of Groignet with 3 children, Jean , Catherine and Jacquette , was seems it in a difficult financial position, worsened by the consequences of the English occupation (Mans and Holy-Suzanne fell in August 1425), and sold grounds and goods.
- His/her son Jean known as Grognet , rider, “as of his young age gave up its heritages and possessions which it had in icel country of Maine for the usurpation and occupation that our former enemies and English adversaries made” of it. Entered like page with the service of the duke of Alençon, it guerroya against the English when he was “in age to carry the harnoiz” . During these wars, Jean de Vassé was made prisoner by the lord John Talbot, with whom it had to pay “great and excessive finance and raençon” . Jeanne the Horned one died after 1451. Ambroise Horned the III , lord of the Curve, Parné, Launay-Peloquin, Breille and the Knighthood, married 1° Adnette Shoeing which contributed to the foundation of the vault of the Curve; 2° Catherine Soap , girl of Felix , S. of Bretesche, and Marie de Brée by contract signed with Angers in 1489. It had 1st marriage: Ambroise Horned the IV , rider, lord of the Curve and Launay-Peloquin; he lived in 1508. He had share with the foundation of his mother.

Claude Horned the , wire of Ambroise and Catherine the Soap ones, lord of the Curve of Brée, Parné, Launay-Peloquin and the Knighthood, married Marie de Feschal , oldest daughter of Rene de Feschal , lord of Thuré, and Jeanne Cornilleau , and approved and increased to him also the foundation made for his/her father.
It is necessary to add to the two precedents: Perrine Horned the , oldest daughter of noble man Ambroys Horned the , the elder one.

Jehan Horned the , with which Claude, his brother, made in court Ruillé in Anjou the March 20th 1525 an arrangement in virtue of which it yielded twenty ecus sun to him, one hacquenée and fifteen ecus sun that the lord of Barbottière owed him, to satisfy it from what from the already open succession of their Ambroise father the Horned one could return to him and his rights at the time of the death of their mother.
- Ambroise Horned the , Ve of the name, lord of the Curve, lived in 1567. He married Madelaine of Jaille , girl of Claude, baron of Avrillé and Francoise Cadu ; she was buried in the church of Brée the January 9th 1591.
